Re: The most awesome clown loach I have ever seen
Stunning? I think it is by far the most ugly clown I´ve ever seen. I would not even want it for free.

Re: River manifold problem
While we want to heve an unidirectional flow in a rivertank, remember that in a real river the flow is not really inidirectional. Every rock, tree or curve the river itself makes will cause turbulence in the water.
Riverine fish can cope with that.

Re: Pangio Anguillaris size
Hardly
Their name, anguilaris refers to the common European eel, and this species does reflect them a bit. Smaller in all measures, and therefore not plump at all.

Re: Very fat loaches?
I would, tentatively, assume there could very well be eggs.
The bellyshape looks that way - fat would result in a round belly, not this edged one. Further, if one fish is overfed, why would the others not be a little over? Assumng eggs would answer this question nicely.

Re: European weather loach Misgurnus fossilis
In many cases, I like the German system better than our own. This is a good example. Have luck with them.

Re: golden zebras? [b. histrionica]
Perhaps a group of 5 could suffice, but I would cetaily get 3 more - in case 1 of them would die, where could you get a replacement? Bettter save than sorry with 1 or 2 more then the absolute minimum. I think 30 gallons - US gallons, of 3,8 liters, that is 114 liters, could be enough, but there is l...

I am quite fanatic about cichlids, and I love Geophagus.
But the change of breeding Botia would make me device traps for catching Geophagus without disturbing the Botias. Anytime

Re: Big Yoyo
That's a big one, and I would not say she is fat - apart from the belly she still looks slim. To me it is eithe bloat or eggs. And as you wrote she is active, eating a lot, it must be eggs. Now the thing is - are the others, presumably males, also very active? You might be looking at an attempt to b...

Re: Swordtail fish
There are a lot of good reasons why one wuld prefer to have a large group. I can only think of three why one would prefer small ones. The first is the money involved. Obviously sometimes fish are just too expensive to get a lot of them The second is the size they will reach. I think a large school o...

Re: Swordtail fish
Swordtails are fish from the current. They originate from Mexico, where the water is hard, and clear. Further the males are rather territorial, you either keep 1, or 4 or more. The number of females is not that important, 5 or 6 males is a good combination with 4 females or with 10. I would assume y...

Re: placing dead tree parts in fish tanks
It deponds on the wood. If the wood smells, or comes from a Conifera tree - I would not use it But there is nothing, what soewver against the use of for instance oak. Still, the wood decayes after a while, and I would recommend wood eating fish, such as Plecoltia in any tank with fresh wood. The thi...

Re: Substrate advice
Let's start with pointing out your other fish don't care what substrate is used. Pangio like to sift in the rotten leaves on the bottom of their habitat. The best way to mimic that is using peat. Were you to add some peat to the tank, say 2 liters (half a gallon) which was boiled shortly to get it s...

Re: Help identify this loach !
Still, if you write Botia sidthimunki everybody will either know waht you write about, or be able to retrieve it.
Common names are, quite often, not that easy to retrieve.

Re: Help identify this loach !
Here comes the thing with so called common names, which are all but common.
I thought yoyo = Misgurnis. Apparently, it is not.
Please, use Latin names, in other countries, in some cases even other parts of one´s countrie `common names` can bew different.
