gravid kuhli?

http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy276/possumlady/kuhlis/10-01-09gravidkuhli.jpg Unfortunately, the frogs and angelfish will probably eat her eggs before I even see them, but I cannot set up another tank, even a small one; this is at work. Do baby kuhlis need filtration/aeration? If I'm lucky eno...

There's about half an inch between the shelf and tank walls, front, back and side in an effort to discourage the greedy angelfish. It sits up on four bottle caps filled with sand. But it's only ten inches long, so they want another one for the other side of the tank. None of my kuhlis have ever alte...

I use 16" curved hemostats to place food under the cave (the angels see them and attack like rabid wolves), but as they eat, the kuhlis and frogs often poke food back outside the shelf. And I saw one of the biggest angelfish wriggle SIDEWAYS in UNDERNEATH that shelf (which is barely half an inch off...

kuhlis have a Hikari party

The kuhlis had a few extra bucks, so they went out and got some Hikari's Sinking Carnivore Pellets. They invited their friends Frog 1 and Frog 2. http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy276/possumlady/kuhlis/9-17-09KuhlisandFrogeating5.jpg http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy276/possumlady/kuhlis/9-17...

I'm confused. The loaches ARE the ornamental fish! Everybody else is just an extra on their movie set.

There's white sand with a few pieces of the original tan gravel to spice it up a bit. No white gravel, but some of the close-ups are so magnified that the sand might appear much larger than it is. The honeycomb thing is a fake log resin aquarium decoration from PetSmart; I think it was around $19. I...

There are six kuhlis, one of whom is about 2" and the rest vary up to the longest, who's maybe 2.75" -- none are full grown yet, so I should have years and years with them. Here they are this morning with a Hikari Sinking Wafer: http://i799.photobucket.com/albums/yy276/possumlady/kuhlis/9-03-09kuhli...

They already do suck up sand in their adorable little barbelled mouths, and snort it out through their gills. Fortunately it's round-edged aquarium sand, and doesn't seem to harm them. It also sticks to their backs for a few seconds after they cavort around, pretending to be Ich, just to see if my h...

kuhlis sucking on frogs?

OK, yesterday one of the kuhlis was doing that grazing/sucking thing across the top of an African Dwarf frog, who didn't seem to mind in the slightest. Was the loach maybe eating shedding skin? (ADFs will often eat their own sheds.) The frog was not visibly in shed, but maybe the kuhlis have been ke...

kuhli like sand

Gravel out, sand in. Tank looks brighter, and it's easier to spot the kuhlis. The new cave is the same hunk of plexiglass (thanks Marsha!) held up by four bottle caps. The kuhlis LOVE it!! And they have fun eeling through the sand and hiding under their Indian Almond Leaf (so do the frogs.) :D http:...

I originally did have a piece of sponge over each intake, to prevent kuhlis from going up inside the filter, but it visibly slowed the flow through the filter. There's nylon netting over them now, but of course that doesn't do much about sand. Since there are two filters with a total of 300 gph on t...

back at work! Yay!

OK, so here I am, happily back at the office with my kuhli tank. (Yes, there are other fish, amphibians and inverts, but they're just extras on the set; the kuhlis are the celebrities.) Arriving an hour early, I removed all but a small handful of the gravel and replaced it with white aquarium sand, ...
