I've been toying with the taking the gravel and snail-shells out of my tank, but quietly put it off as I'm also toying with a re-build to about 150Gal. From these (brilliant) photos: screw it, i'm just going to start sieving the stones out a little at a time and replacing with the local nice, dark r...

What's the weather been like? I find thunderstorms do odd things to fish habits. Are they eating? What is the food? What kind of plants? The plants may have been in a shock (normal) and have just now started to grow, which will have an (positive) effect on water-parameters/quality. growing plants wi...

RTS- I'd say it'd do brilliantly and will enjoy "mixing it up" with similarly grouchy tank-mates, particularly as the shark gets larger/older. Mine schools with the loaches when they are "dithering" and scraps when they scrap. Poor fella can't click though.... He/she runs the show at the moment, but...

I'm thinking of rigging up some mirrors to light the plants in the back. Now that's low-tech, but annoying when the wind blows.....

Carbon in your filter should deal with the PVC cement toot-sweet. If worried just make sure the carbon is fresh. Love the bamboo, keep us posted on how it performs. As it gets a "pong" (stink) and/or white bacteria/fungal fuzz leave it- don't take it out. Let the fish get a taste for it. Plecos, RTS...

Some quick and entirely mercenary questions:
Where did you get your bamboo, where was the original source (where was it grown) and what did it cost?

Filtration- rule of thumb

Folks, The rule of thumb for filtration is that all the water in the system should go through the filter about every hour, yes? I.E. a 100Gal tank should have a filter/pump that runs about 100GPH? Certainly there is going to be flexibility with stock-load, species, plants, footprint, sunshine, flow ...

Annoying.... Not to worry- the filter needs cleaning again so there will be fresh high-bacterial-load "crud" next week.
Thanks

We've got a dozen Indian Almond trees at and around our place. I've used the leaves a few times- first times everything was fine (great, in fact) but most recent time things just seemed "wrong" and a good loach died. No idea if there was a connection, but I've not used them since. Possibility of ins...

Seeding bacteria

Folk, Is there some sort of "spore" form of our beneficial aquarium bacteria that persists when media is dried or goes anoxic? I ask as I've been saving the crud out of my canister filter in a big jug. The O2 in the bottle doesn't stay very long, so it tends to go anoxic- methane etc... for a time, ...

Onomatopea.
The sound grouchy carnivorous mammals make.
Grr-tanks tends to be populated with angrier/grouchier species, in this case loaches like tigers.
