Re: Too many fish in my tank? Clown Loaches always hiding.

Thankyou for your reply Bookpage.

In the past I had counted out this lovely fish as a companion to my Clown Loaches due to this temperature issue.

Re: Too many fish in my tank? Clown Loaches always hiding.

Roseline Barb ? Doesn't this species require cooler temperatures than the Clown Loach or is there some solution I wasn't aware of ?

Sorry to be an awkward bugger. Just asking !

Re: Too many fish in my tank? Clown Loaches always hiding.

I don't think Balas will be happy in a 75. I feel that such large and most importantly skittish fish should only be in public aquaria or Monster Tanks. Also Clown Loaches should ideally be in something bigger to avoid stunting. I feed my Clown Loaches in the morning and early evening and they have a...

Re: Tiger Loach Question

How large is your aquarium?

This is crucial for people to give you good advice.

I guess if, as you state, you have a dozen or more fish that are all 8" or bigger and some that will grow much bigger it must be at least a six foot aquarium? It sounds heavily stocked already to be honest.

Re: What stock for a 450l (~120g) tank?

Why would you need more than Clown Loaches? Many people keep them alone (a species tank). A shoal of another species occupying the upper tankspace would look good though. If I did this I would try Scissortails. I have found that my original Boeseman's Rainbow shoal had the downside of the males doin...

Re: Can a Weather Loach be kept in a UK gardne pond?

Hi and welcome. I am surprised you have not had a reply yet. I thought lots of people on here kept the Weather Loach? Well, I checked what this site recommends and we say minimum temperature is 10 degrees C. Therefore it cannot be recommended to subject this fish to the overwinter temperatures of a ...

Re: Hillstream loach, help!

Hi, I wish I could be nicer but I feel you have been poorly advised. So, you have a 12 litre aquarium and you have a 120 litres per hour filter? Sounds about right for turnover in theory. I have a Hillstream Loach in my 4 foot catfish tank and turnover is 10x tank volume (in theory, but probably muc...

Re: Best Heating Solutions

Well I think that many glass heaters will crack if operated out of the water, including the Visi-therm.

There are some makes that will not operate out of water, but I forget which ones.

Re: The Aquarium Wiki Image Added!

Well done, but I can't see much of the fish - only it's face?

Can you put one on that shows the fish from the side when you get around to it please?

Re: Best Heating Solutions

Yes, I have heard about problems with US Marineland Visitherms. Thanks for pointing this out. Best not to confuse with our Visitherm which is made by, I believe, Underworld and which is widely considered the most reliable on the market. I've not had an issue with the toughened glass that these heate...

Re: Best Algae Eater for My Tank?

I have found that Bristlenoses, at least, do not need their vegetables blanched. They can eat them as soon as they go in. I know this as I have kept Bristlenoses for a long time. However, I'd like to stress that in a 20 gallon feeding vegetables will, in my experience, impact on water quality. The c...

I would advise having a beginning, a middle and an end to your talk  But seriously, tell them what you are going to tell them. Then tell them. Then tell them what you've told them! Also, I think your idea about focusing on what fun it is to keep Loaches is brilliant! My Clowns only had ich at t...
