Re: Mudskipper paludarium- an alternative solution

Hi, there. I know, I'm still blaming myself for not showing the sitter the proper maintenance of the tank. I must say that she did excellent job with all the other tanks and the rest of the zoo. I don't have much new presentable shots for now. I'll get back in line a bit later. https://lh6.googleuse...

Re: Mudskipper paludarium- an alternative solution

Sooooo, back from a six week work assignment in Normandie to find out the observational qualities of the live-in animalsitter have consentrated on something else than the mudskipperarium. Both pumps of the tank were pretty much clogged. The filter was circulating very little, the pump taking water u...

Re: Mudskipper paludarium- an alternative solution

hi hx, still wondering about this type of setup and if it would be feesible for me , so wonder what type of filter is best ? Dosen't look like one can use an HOB, what I am used to, and how did you cycle it? established filter media from another tank or fishless ? I can imagine even a tiny bit of a...

Beats tv any day. I just need to make me an HQI photographing light. Re: Mudskipper paludarium- an alternative solution

hi hx, wow ,great info you have provided. The aquarium store I use has had them , so I will have to be sure to see if they are the smaller species. I have summers off and this seems like a good project , and they are so darn cute... . I will do more reading on them, make sure I can give them everyt...

Thanks!

I'm no photographer. I certainly am no filmmaker.
But here's some overall footage of the tank, shot with a Nokia N8 phone.

Re: Mudskipper paludarium- an alternative solution

Thanks, starsplitter7 and NancyD. I had Mondo Grass (Ophipopgon japonicus) survive in an emersed 'skipper habitat, salt level at 1.004. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophiopogon_japonicus Everything else died. Try acclimating the plants over several months, starting them in hard water, and adding just...

Re: Mudskipper paludarium- an alternative solution

Thanks. There are several species of plants that should do ok in the low salinities. I'm not havin' too much growth yet, even though I tried to acclimate the plants during a few months . But we'll see. My hopes are high. Java moss and Riccia are doing fine, a couple species of Crypts are surviving, ...
