I have a 5.5 gallon hospital/quarentine tank. I dose any new fish with Melafix, Pimafix and for intestinal parasites for a week or two before adding them to my main tank. This really does cut down on the die offs I have had. This has mainly been for guppies as an illness can sweep through a tank of ...

Are the feeder fish you got guppies? There has been a particularly virulent strain of Columnaris going around in guppy stock. I actually had a HUGE die off a little while back. It only seemed to go away when I treated the fish with Marycyn-two for 3 cycles. That seems to have gotten rid of it. Fortu...

The main thing is that I just got this tank so the levels are constantly stable, I also want to continue running this tank for my fry to mature in when I get larger tanks. Another thing, I'm not in a situation right now where it would be advisable to pull apart a tank (3rd floor, 220sq ft studio apa...

Yeah, I read that my Kuhlies are especially in danger because they could burrow under the UGF and get stuck. What should I do with them for now? All I have is my 10 gallon with the UGF and the 5.5 hospital tank (with no lid), with a over the back filter with a sponge over the intake, and only a few ...

Best type of filter for loaches
I will be getting two new tanks soon that will probably be in the range of 20 gallons to 45 gallons (all long of course). I've heard that Kuhlies like slower moving water, I intend to house them with my guppies, and my botias (zebra and yoyo) like faster moving water and they will be housed in the o...

Tips on how to get an inexpensive tank setup.
Hey everyone, I am looking into getting two larger tanks and I want to see if anyone has any ideas on how to do this without having it cost too much. I currently have a 10 gallon with a zebra, a yoyo (I will get friends for these guys when I upgrade. I didn't know they needed friends when I bought t...

Hey guys, good news. Thanks to your suggestions, I dismantled my powerhead and found that the reason it wasn't running was that it was gunked up with algae. I cleaned it out and it now works fine. I thought it was one solid unit before one of you said something about cleaning it out. Thanks so much....

I don't remember where I bought it. I just graduated from a college in Lancaster county PA, my parents live in northern Delaware. I could have bought it in either area. I am currently living in Gaithersburg, MD, 20 min (in good traffic) Northwest of Washington DC. See why I have trouble keeping rece...

My powerhead broke & I'm low on funds
I noticed yesterday afternoon that my powerhead for my undergravel filter is no longer working. The main issue is that I have very little money right now (I am going to be signing a lease on a new place this afternoon and have to put most of my money into deposits and first month's rent. Is there an...

Tank size an number of each species
Thanks for all the help so far. I just have a few more questions. 1) What is the smallest ideal group size for Black Kuhlis, Yoyos and Zebras? 2) What would be the ideal tank size to house all these loaches? (Plus 7-8 guppies and 3 Dwarf Otos (dwarf suckers)) Don't worry I have other tanks to house ...

Can different species of loaches make up for not having more
I currently have 1 Yoyo Loach 1 Zebra Loach 1 Black Kuhli Loach The Zebra and Yoyo seem to enjoy each other's company and they play with each other. The Black Kuhli on the other hand likes to hide. I have heard from different sources that I need more then one of each loach type. But, does having dif...
