Re: A new guy...
Maybe get around five. I like the striped ones, but black seem more readily accessible. You will see them a lot more if you keep a group, but I do not think you will have room for much more, especially if you get other fish I have five of the striped ones in a 20 L, along with 5 harlequin raspora an...

thoughts on levamisole
I have a skinny dojo, and finally got some levamisole (thanks to you, Starsplitter! ... for the info on where to get some) Anyway, I have NOT put it in the tank yet. I always stew and study something for a while before I commit. I am interested in hearing other people's experience with this med. Has...

Re: Losing kuhlie loaches.. have I missed something ?
I have 5 striped pangio and they were nowhere NEARLY that sensitive. Yes, they are loaches, which are not the MOST hardy of fish, but nothing like a finicky DISCUS or anything. I think there must be something going on at the LFS, or there is a distinct difference btwn the water parameters at the sto...

Re: The odissey of moving fish and filters to a bigger tank
WOW, my back hurts and I did nothing but read this post!!!!
That arowana is quite beast! I'll bet she is a powerful fish. IT sounds like you were really organized and thoughtful on how you did this move.
...and your new tank is really pretty!!

Re: Lonely Clown Loach
i usually use a 10 gallon for quarantine because the smaller the tank, the more difficult to keep parameters, temp etc, stable. Five gallons seems small in that regard. I have never used one as small as that, but that is not to say that it could not work, for just one 3" fish. Still, you want it sma...

Re: Lonely Clown Loach
most people like to keep the Qtank completely bare, except for a hiding place so as not to cause excessive stress to the fish in treatment/observation. I usually put just a SKIFF of gravel (easily vacuumed), a ceramiccave, and some sacrificial live plants (clippings from wisteria off the big plant i...

Re: fat fish in aquaria
I think life for fish in the wild is like life for most animals in the wild: short and hard for the vast majority. Nutrition in that setting is the least of one's short term worries and you usually eat what you can find, and what is available. You are also a target when ill or injured. Therefore the...

yeah, that substrate is really nice.
I do not know what is "lace fern" but it sounds lovely.
Will be looking forward to more pics!

Re: fat fish in aquaria
thanks NancyD, I appreciate the advice! I guess my fish (like me) will sometimes eat beyond being hungry!!! still, none really LOOK too fat :D all of my tanks are planted and I really see the benefit of that. I even put some wisteria in the Qtank to help balance parameters. I do not see any compelli...

Re: fat fish in aquaria
Thanks for all the replies. I never really considered the "cold blooded" part of the equation. I still think I probably overfeed some. I use nitrates to help me decide about water changes, and end up doing weekly water changes on most of my tanks to keep nitrates below 10. I know that stocking level...

Re: [Pics] Setting up Yoyo Biotope
this is looking good! I really like the pebble/sand substrate. How big is that tank?...and how big is that log? What plants are you thinking about using? Sorry to hammer you with questions, but I LOVE this part! setting up the tank, making pans for how you want it to look in the end. My yoyos really...

Re: Catching Yoyos...
what about getting some sort of small bore, but reasonably sized piece of netting material to push UNDER the whole area, maybe even a day beforre the move. Yes, you would also net up the kuhlis and disrupt their spot, but I bet it would be LESS disruptive to all considered. I always look for a solut...

fat fish in aquaria
Well, I was talking with my sister (she lives out of town, but has aquaria as well, salt and freshwater). I have only freshwater tanks, Anyway, we got into a "discussion" regarding feeding. She thinks I am scrimpy on the feeds, yet I think I err on feeding too much. Then I was reading in last month'...

Re: our Mexican cichlid tank
That is a REALLY nice tank....very relaxing and laid back for a cichlid tank.
The videography was also very nice. Sometimes when you watch a video of someone's tank, they have a background of loud, distracting music. This was so nicely done!
Thanks for sharing
