I just picked up 2 today, I'm going to put them in the tank when I get done typing this post. I am very excited :) My son went with me to pick them up and said they were awesome (he turns 9 tomorrow). The owner of the LFS said they were already taking frozen bloodworms so I am sure they will do grea...

Try slowly removing the ornament from the water. You may have to repeat this several times. I used to have yoyos that hid in a shell. If I took the shell completely out of the water and then put it back in they usually swam out on their own. Sometimes it took 3 or 4 tries, though. The other option i...

Lesion on my Nemacheilus masyae (with pic)

I noticed this lesion on the ventral surface of one of my N. masyae today. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u264/gulogulo18/S4010072.jpg I purchased this fish along with another N. masyae and 2 N. cf. selangorus on Dec. 30, 2006. They were quarantined for about 2 weeks and then added to a 55 gal. ...

Congrats on breeding black kuhlies ( P. oblonga )! I have not heard of anyone breeding this species before although I'm not the long time member of LOL that others are. I have a group of six in a 25gal that I am trying to breed. No luck yet. My suspicion on yours is that they may be breeding in your...

I'm not familiar with the type of filter you are using, but hopefully others will be able to comment on whether it is sufficient. Biowheel are HOB's that have a paddlewheel at the outflow that provides great biological filtration. I use them in my larger tanks and they work great. Even the smallest...

I had 2 P. oblonga for about 5 years, the only holdovers from a period of little activity in my fishroom. Last year I added 4 more and gave them a new setup with live plants and a V. maasi roommate. While I always enjoyed them after adding the new gang they have been immensely more entertaining. My ...

The book arrived yesterday. I am surprised at how quickly it arrived given the long wait others have complained of. It is a fabulous book and definitely worth adding to any loachophile's library. My perusal of the book brought a thought to mind that I've had before when reading scientific literature...

My wife is the best

For our 10th anniversary coming up next month my wife bought me Dr. Tan's Borneo Suckers book! :D Don't know how long it will take to get here but my wife is such a wonderful thoughtful person to continue to feed my addiction to loaches  She says its better than going to the bars or bowling (no...

I agree with Graeme on all except 5. They are hardy if you make it past the first couple of weeks. I try to let all Pangios (kuhlis) recover from shipping at the lfs for at least a week and then a 2 week quarantine.

feeder guppies are always good for cycling (and cheap).

I spotted some clowns that were about a cm SL at the lfs on Wednesday. I plan on picking up a bunch this weekend. They looked quite healthy although very young, the head and body shape aren't quite the same as the larger juveniles we see for sale. When I get decent photos and my computer fixed (I bl...

I agree with Mad Duff. They look like washed out P. oblonga. From my experience they will darken up and take on a velvetly dark reddish brown to blackish appearance. Given proper care and nutrition, of course.

I don't have a lot of experience with hillstreams but i vote for schistura (I know they are more of a brook loach than a true hillstream). I have 6 that a highly entertaining.

I have 6 Schistura ( I think similis and sexcauda with possibly a third species) in a 50gal tank with 2 Gastros. So far the Schisturas pick on each other much more than the gastros. They occasionally chase the gastros off a rock but I have observed no nipping or other overly aggressive behavior. The...
