Re: Tank raised Clown loach lifespan?

I have about 20 tank raised clowns that I've had for 10+ years. They seem a bit small or stunted compared to my large wild caught clowns. Whether thats due to enviroment or dna, who knows? I expect them to live just as long.

Re: Clown loach eating other fish.

In the past, my clowns have eaten fry, and other small fish, such as tetra's. Now I have some heavily planted tanks to keep the little ones safer. Also have a few rock piles to keep small bottom dwellers safe.

Re: Oldest Clown Loach over 20 years of age?

I don't think many of the longtime LOL members check this forum regularly anymore, but a few others might have clowns in the 20 year range. I forget where it was posted, but years ago at Capitol Aquarium, some people claimed that they had clown loaches that were 40+ years old. Over at AquariaCentral...

Re: A short video of my clowns

Very nice tank and clowns. Do you got caves for the clowns to rest in? If so, you did a fine job blending them in with all the driftwood.

Very cool. So You got the kuhli's to spawn? Mine just hide in a rock pile all day. I've been thinking about giving them their own set-up, as I currently have them with clown loaches.

Re: Black dots on clown Loaches

Last year when I was treating my main tanks for ich, things went nuts, so I had to do a large water change. The result of all the chaos was black splotches all over my clowns. I documented this semi-disaster here: http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24777 Here's some before and after pics:...

Re: The perfect clown loach tank mates.

The tropical water conditions in Borneo and Sumatra vary greatly depending on the monsoon season. The water's pH can range anywhere from 4 to 8 from what I've read. Along with the pH changes, the temperature, oxygen levels, CO2 content, TDS, GH, and KH levels change throughout the seasons also. So i...

Re: OneWay's Thread

Great idea! Bamboo will eventually decompose after a few years, but you could seal it will a fish-safe epoxy resin so it doesn't. I may have to try this myself. Thanks for the link!

Re: Thinking about Switching away from R/O need help.

while i love idea of setting up a walstad style tank, its opposite of what i am trying to do which is save money. Actually, these are low tech tanks, that can be done with little to no money at all. Many of these el natural tanks are filterless and use no electricity. Some plant clippings is all yo...

Re: update to my 240 gallon tank...

Very nice! I've got a few questions. I absolutely love those redline torpedo barbs. I've been wanting to get some of those for years, but I I was given some information (perhaps false info) here about them not being capable with clown loaches, so I never did get them. How are they doing? How long ha...

Re: Thinking about Switching away from R/O need help.

You could also incorporate some of Diana Walstad's el natural tank methods. These type of tanks use plants and soil to help recycle the water. With loaches, perhaps a sump or external filter with plants and soil, would be more ideal. Aquaria Central has a lot of info on setting up these kind of tank...
