Impressive Botia almorhae ! Are you looking to add a few more play-mates for him? To be honest, I'm not sure yet. Like I said, it was an impulse buy and s/he was all alone in the shop tank except for some tetras so my thoughts were he'd be better of in my tank. He seems to get along well with the o...

Meet General Musharraf!

Hey there, a few days ago I visited one of my favourite fish stores, "Aquaristik Silbermann", and spontaneously decided to buy the last yoyo loach available. I don't have any other yoyos in my tank .. but 6 clowns and 5 zerbra loaches, and from what I've seen so far he's accpeting them as family and...

Emma, have you tried fans? Any fan will do, as long as it's directed straight on the water surface. I have no problems anymore in lowering the tank temperature, it just takes a few hours and of course I loose approx. half a litre of water every hour. Also the rooms becomes a lot more humid but that'...

So you dry your loaches, grind them to powder and then smoke them?
This would explain at least some of your posts, of course. :)

linarite, in my humble opinion the easiest way to find out whether or not you are feeding too much is to check the fishs belly after you fed them - if it's quite visibly "bloated", you are feeding them too much (not necessarily too much in an unhealthy way but more than they need). The "aggressive" ...

tariesindanrie, as you might know, the only thing that a bully respects is another bully which he deems to be stronger. So .. take a net, get Snap out of the tank and give him a good ol' fashioned beating! Make sure the others watch this - voila, problem solved. Apart from that, adding mor...

CoolEEazy, both of your loaches are best tended in groups of at least 3-5, so it would be adviseable to add more botia kubotai or striata to your tank than to add another different loach species. You will see much more of the funny "loachy" behaviour this way, too! :D If you don't want to add more t...

loachorgy, my advise is that you do 2 consecutive water changes (2x 90%) right now . The bacteria bloom hints that something is wrong with your tank. The water change would help with possible parasites too by eliminating many of them from the tank. The stress caused by the water change is IMHO negle...

linarite, in Germany potassium permanganate is readily available in all pharmacies/drugstores in crystalline form. You will notice that the deeply purple coloured solution (you can achieve this by a very minor amount of potassium permanganate, just the tip of a knife should be enough) will turn into...

linarite,

I forgot to mention this: for the last "bath" I used a nice strong deeply purple coloured potassium permanganate solution to thoroughly kill anything left alife on/in the bamboo. :) Gives the bamboo a nice brownish hue .. the ancistrus take care of this quickly, though. .)

linarite, I got mine from a hardware store. It was the simple untreated, un-laquered kind. I just sanded it down a little bit and put it in a bucket of water for about 10 days (I changed the water 2-3x per day and it can't hurt to use boiling water a few times either). My 2 ancistrus sp. keep the ba...

H2O2 is evil stuff and very aggressive. On the positive side it is also VERY unstable (as a liquid), so just let the plants rest in a bucket of water for a few hours and it should be gone completely.

I have various driftwood pieces in my tank which form quite some nice caves. And a bamboo stick.

Bamboo wins. All the time.
