Re: Sewellia Marmorata

Very sorry for this. Sew03 is a very nice species and while we do not know if s.marmorata is breedable (mine are not doing much, but then they are obviously young), Sew03 clearly can be and the fry is great. you can see mine here . Hope you will be able to secure a healthy group, definitely worth ke...

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

I'd think 10g is too small. 20L should be ok. Another option to consider: an outdoor pond or tub, they probably would love it. (Notice that dojos established themselves in the NW corner of the US (Oregon and around) and there are rumors of them being present in the NE too ... so they can take the cl...

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

I'd order flubendazole instead.... the meds are very closely related but fenbendazole solubility is horrible so simply putting it into the tank tends not to work. The dosage for either med is 2mg/l. There is also a form of fenbendazole for fish, this is new, here . Notice that fenbendazole is either...

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

Panacur C is Fenbendazole. You do not need any vet to get it, it is everywhere and cheap. Fenbendazole is very similar to Flubendazole but much more difficult to administer, it is the med of choice in the countries where flubendazole cannot be found. If you use Fenbendazole, use the tablet form. Lin...

They also cannot read the books where they are defined as "bottomfeeders".

Re: Loach is feeding up top of tank??

Not unusual, and there is nothing wrong with it. Your loach learned that there is another way to feed and perhaps he likes guppy food (flakes) better.

I see this all the time with various botia species, including your b.almorhae.

Re: Vanmanenia crassicauda (Clouded Leopard Loaches)

All kinds of things are possible. I've seen rapid dieouts (like yours) due to bacterial infections without any symptoms (they were diagnosed by lab tests, aeromonas) and other instances of deadly bacterial symptomless diseases with no redness or any other signs. If you really want to track this down...

Re: Vanmanenia crassicauda (Clouded Leopard Loaches)

Levamisole would have been useless in all cases. What happened is one of two things: shipping damage OR acute bacterial infection. Not parasitic, no internal parasite kills this fast, but bacterial. You could not do anything about the first possibility, you could fight bacterial infection with an an...

Re: Vanmanenia crassicauda (Clouded Leopard Loaches)

Use antibiotics immediately. Furan2, Kanamycin, Doxycycline/Minocycline, whatever you got. I listed the better choices first.

We'll talk later, hope you can save some.

You did everything correctly most likely.

Re: Vanmanenia crassicauda (Clouded Leopard Loaches)

Congratulations! Nice looking fish, hope they make it. It appears that you are doing things right, and creating good environment for them (and your tank looks good, 40 breeder is a great type of tank too) may help their survival. Filtration is good, so is the setup. Gravel would have been better tha...

Hope you are still around, Odyssey! I'm a happy owner of a small group now.... need to ask you: do you know anything about their markings? Some seem to have dashes or triangles below the lateral line, some don't.. is this locale or perhaps sex or age? A couple of mine are here: https://www.facebook....

Your disagreement noted. Not replying, I do not see anything in your post that is applicable to the OP.

Re: Unknown problem with weather loach - any input appreciat

I don't know why Mikev thinks water changes won't do any good in this case. A long list of rather obvious reasons here. Firstly, no denial that extra water changes are generally helpful, the question is if they are going to change the situation any. And here is why likely not: 1. Extra water change...
