More options please.
A hydrogen peroxide dip for 3 mins will kill any algae including BBA.
A 1part bleach 19 parts water will also do it.
Both require very good rinsing after btw.
Co2 and lighting is the best way to avoid it.

Loach disease management

Hey folks from looking at the forum these days I think it is safe to say we have a lot of new faces that need some sort of sticky post in regards to ich treatments etc. I will organize it if the old timers( you know who you are ;) will send me their thoughts on good current ich meds and thier usage ...

You could also set it up as a planted tank with one of those hagen co2 kits about 20-30 watts of flourescent light and some water sprite, java fern and java moss. Add a small filter like an ac mini and you can skip cycling( gasp).BUT this must be done very carefully. Check out the NANO tank forum on...

One more less obvious choice would be a river tank!
A nice long tank would be great for some hillstreams and with some white clouds for dithers.

Also go to make a mesh wall with a combo java ferns and moss growing out of and on using landsacping mesh. Does A...

Fusqer Well the fish were very skinny pinched behind the head. The maracyns are administered at the same time, full dosage for 10 days. Watch for nitrite spikes as this often happens with the maracyns, it is not serious only temporary. I use Seachem Prime water conditioner in my Qt tank at 2-5x dose...

That sounds about right. I found that yoyo's have an incredibly fast growth rate up to about 5 inches at 2 years and then slow down.

It may be a parasite, I have never witnessed an event like that. Personally I treat all new loaches with maracyn 1 and 2 for 10days . At the same time I treat with maracide. Mind you this is the original formula which works amazingly well on ich. After treatment and some water changes I now also tre...

Hey Mark!!

How is your river/brook tank doing? Is there still some new behaviours happening? Cherrie is doing well still , is out more and eating nicely though more skittish than my Mahnerti's. Going to get some more rock from Lynn Creek tomorrow for the tank. Going stony now in the river. Also might get some ...

Hi wanda I use melafix but only at half strength, But I like many other often find that more frequent water changes will help best with healing.
Kuhli's certainly do react to Melafix as do weather loaches but I've not seen any morbidity involved.

Very well put Martin.
That needed to be said.
So much of disease and helath management comes down to logic and common sense.
You and Mike and so many other "LOL old timers" taught me ALL the best fiahkeeping practices. This is probably the #1 straight shooting forum around.

Ich is not seasonal as it a Parasite. If it present in your tank it will appear if/when any fish is stressed. In the wilds healthy fish can fight it off most of the time I suspect partly due to constant exchange of water. If you have no ich in your tank you cannot get it. But fish that look like the...
