Yes, with a lot of social fishes there's a "critical mass" kind of thing where they only exhibit "true" behaviour once you reach or exceed that number. Most of these Geophagines aren't exactly highly aggressive when not breeding, but as Matt says single specimens within a mixed species group can bec...

It really depends on the ambient heat in your home, specific tank location and what you're actually keeping. In a 30 gallon tank in the average home a small heater-stat set in the low to mid 70's (for hillstreams) will likely seldom switch on. Therefore, all though it's in there it's not doing anyth...

If you are thinking of keeping sucker-bodied type hillstreams in a regularly heated home environment then you won't even need a heater. I've kept hillstreams since 1999 and never used a heater. During the summer, keeping a tank cool enough can be the issue without air-conditioning. My 65 gallon hill...

They do appear to be possibly Botia histrionica, but very sickly looking ones. I wouldn't touch these with a 10 foot pole.

I agree with you plaalye, S. pulchra . This species has very variable markings but they are one of the more commonly exported Chinese loaches. The conditions stated in the species profile are applicable (I wrote it) and the fish pictured were mine too. They're a secretive fish but I luv 'em to bits....
