This is a zoomed in section of a photo I took of one of the males last month: Definite thickening there :-) that looks just like the effect I am seeing. It's nice to know that this is visible on other fish, the first time i noticed them the fences were flaking away from the fin which freaked me out...

Your red algae looks more like a lichen very unusual.

Thanks for all the comments, it has taken a lot of pictures to finally get one that shows the fences reasonably, even in this one they are not as pronounced as i have seen in the past. The fences are most noticeable in the Annamia with darker body colour, it took me a while to be convinced that this...

Annamia normani pictures

Hi all, I thought i would post some updated pictures of my Annamia normani . Enjoying the Tunze flow, this is a few stones back from the pump outflow, still quite fast. The Annamia normani don't sucker down onto the stones but seem to perform magic with their fins using the water flow its self to ho...

Fantastic news Chris, Martin has already pulled out my pictures of very young P.Cheni for comparison :-) After having seen all of Emma's Sewellia fry pictures it does seem that all hillie young can look very similar when small. Given that this was found in the filter it would favour an egg scatterer...

Hi John, Welcome to the forum :-) a 4' tank sounds perfect for keeping Pseudogastromyzon cheni with plenty of space for a river tank manifold. Alas i can't give you a definitive answer your question, I have no experience with keeping Swan mussels. Having a brief scan through a wikipedia article on f...

Very interesting, Les. I have had both my wui for about 5 years and have never seen them eat pellets. I was quite surprised to see our Wui go for the pellet the first time, especially after hearing about your experiences with them. Blood worm has not really excited my loaches all that much, certain...

Hi TC,

Looks like that tank will shape up nicely :-)

I can thoroughly recommend Pseudogastromyzon cheni for the tank, they are a very entertaining species and have given me a lot of joy in owning them.

It is always good to another fish keeper assimilated into the way of the hill stream!

Hi Mikev, S. Wui are lovely fish, when you see them. Ours are surprisingly visible in the tank and do seem to graze around on the stones while hunting for other bits of food. That said they do tend to keep to the shaded areas of the tank and only venture out in the open when food is around. Out of t...

Thanks all :-) Sorry to hear that the new hillies are causing problems though. :? Which ones seem to be the perpetrators, is it the S. wui or the Annamia ? I don't think that it is actually the new fish causing problems directly although there are scuffles between all of them every now and again. I ...

Thanks Martin,
Nothing visible in those very impressive pictures. It must have been my eyes playing tricks on me.

Lovely fish Martin.

Do these guys get fences on the pectoral fins like the Sewellia? I think i can see some raised ridges on your picture of the male. I'm curious as i think i can see similar fences on my Annamia normani which do look so similar...

Thanks Guys :-)

I'm glad you all enjoyed the pictures :-) The Annamia normani are very P. Cheni like in their attitude, very active and not at all shy. Naturally a P. Cheni like attitude also means a fair bit of territorial aggression which is shared out equally between both species. So far they are all playing wel...
