why did you say alone of course? male fighters can be put with other fish expect males of their own kind though they often become the victim of fin nippers. i have a male and female fighter in one of my community tanks and also have a pair in a huge vase with a peace lilly sitting on top as they eat...

i would say they are botia rostrata (ladder loach) i have this same type. but the picture tay has put up looks like botia kubotai (polka dot loach)

yeah those colour granules are what i use as well. all my fish love them and they are meant to be less toxic then the sinking pellets when decomposing though no food is left in my tank with the loaches around.

ive kept kribensis also a type of cichlid that can be kept at lower ph and they do fine on the flake food and a red granule food (not sure what its called). the granule food is good for bigger fish as they get a bigger mouthful and my loaches also love it. its also less toxic when it breaks down in ...

those are good results for the short space of time. my tank cycled quickly as well (upgraded to 60g) but i seeded from an old tank.
rams are lovely fish and your right they should be kept in a pair.
the nitrate doesnt have to be at 0. 10ppm is a fine level to have it at.
