Re: Pellet vs Flake food for goldfish
Thank you! I was afraid they would be gulping air too much, when going for the flakes, resulting in bloating, etc.!

Pellet vs Flake food for goldfish
I have requested new food for the goldfish I am taking care of. Bulk flake food was purchased, even tho' the container was for sinking pellets. I never gave it a thought that flakewould be purchased. I requested pellets and was told they didn't have them in bulk (I figured that!). I asked then, coul...

Re: Compatibility Question
i have added a red-fin shark in a 45G, that is home to a couple of clown loaches. They are bigger than he is, so I will keep my fingers crossed. There is also a large pleco and different tetras. I did add 3 red seerpae tetras, but didn't see them when I went back the next day! I am hoping they are h...

Re: Super Glue is really safe???
I am not sure what you are using the glue for, but my suggestion would be to use silicone. Super glue wold be quite dangerous and will not hold when continually wet, I don't believe.

Re: Should I move a pair of sunset gouramis?
Maybe I have set a tank that is waiting for a disaster to happen!! I do have a couple other tanks that I can move fish to, and maybe I should before something happens! Yesterday they looked fine, but maybe a territory hasn't be designated, yet. I feel pretty stupid, because I used to have a pet stor...

Re: Should I move a pair of sunset gouramis?
Thanks, Diana! I did lose the one sunset gourami, and have since added 4 dwarf gouramis (called neon on the tag). I have not been out since I added them yesterday, so I am hoping they are OK. I THINK there are 3 males and 1 female, because one is a bit lighter in color and heavier bodied than the ot...

Should I move a pair of sunset gouramis?
I have 3 paradise fish (2f, 1m) and 2 sunset gouramis in a 45 gal. aquarium. I am able to add fish at this time, but I take care of the aquariums at a veterans home and money is a bit limited!! I am wondering before I do, if I need to do a couple little changes. One of the sunsets is a bit emaciated...

Air stones for UG Filter
Do you have use airstones in the lift tubes of undergravel filters or can you go without, just using the rigid tubing?

Re: Sand Substrate
Thank you, Diana!! Is it a good idea to set up a smaller tank (29 gal.), to get the "feel" of using this substrate, before going to a larger tank? I have a 60 gal flatback that I am hoping to set up this summer. The thought of a larger tank, to accomadate the clown loaches at the vets home is in the...

Re: Losing fish and High Nitrates
I have checked the ph today and it is above the 7.6 that is indicated on the color chart. The 7.6 on the chart is more turquoise, so I am not really sure about the reading - the water turned a crystal blue zircon color. That is the best I can describe it! :) Being small fish, I don't believe they ha...

Re: Losing fish and High Nitrates
Thanks for the input! My plan is to eventually bring the clowns home, altho' my 65 gal. may still not be big enough. I will have to save and get a larger tank, I guess! At an inch per fish per gallon, I didn't think this tank (45 gal) was overloaded, but obviously there are less fish now, so hopeful...

Re: Losing fish and High Nitrates
Thank you for the suggestions! I am not sure of the ph, but I can test that today. The fish get fed once a day, most of the time, with an occasional twice a day. I am the one that feeds most of the time and feed flake, algae tabs, and recently started adding some shrimp pellets. I feed cautiously, a...

Losing fish and High Nitrates
I am the one taking care of the 5 aquariums at a vets home, with limited money! I have lost 5 fish in the aquarium that is home to 3 clown loaches, so I AM WORRIED! If something happens to them I will surely die!!!!!!!! Yesterday I tested the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. The ammonia and nitrites ...

Re: Flame tetra problem
Thanks, Diana! Not much info, really, other than what I posted! Everyone was doing fine, or so I thought! All of a sudden, it seemed, the poor thing was smaller than the rest and swimming almost vertically and totally "on the go", kind of frantically. I took him home and put him by himself, thinking...
