Catching ballitorids...

Post by Cup » Mon Jun 02, 2008 7:52 pm

How do you folks do it?

For me, it is a tricky, time consuming process of cornering the fish so that it ends up adhered to the tank above the water line, whereby I use a blunt BART card and gently "transfer" the fish on to said card by touching the card to the snout region. The fish then usually moves onto the card.

I just grab the large ones with thumb and forefinger just in front of the pec fins on the side of their head and move them with a small bucket underneath in case I drop them. I also coax them into pipe and net the entire pipe with them inside. I do not net them as this is bad for nets and more importantly the fish. I like the card trick but it could be dangerous to the mouth unless you are gentle. Good idea.

you could try and put a glass jar over em and move it upwards to the edge.
Once you get to the top the fish should move itself into the jar.
