tankmates for Botia's ?

Post by chalamala » Thu Aug 21, 2008 12:52 pm

Hello !
I am a Belgian aquarist. Botia almorhae and Chromobotia macracantha (7 pieces of each) are swimming in one of the tanks of my fishroom for more than ten years. In the fishroom, they are on their own (the tank is about 500l). But as the years passed the fishes became really beautiful, and I now want to give them the tank in my livingroom (800l).
However, in this tank I don't want to hold them alone... but I don't know what fishes to hold with them : Danio's need cooler temperatures, Rasbora's don't like too big or boisterous tankmates, and Barbs mostly don't swim in the upper part of the tank (the idea is to have an Asian tank with the Botia's in the lower part, and a schoolfish in the upper part).
Can you give me advice ? Thanks a lot,

:) :?:

You have the same tank idea as me:

Asian tank with botias on the bottom and a school fish. I went with tigerbarbs, at first they were all over the tank but since I added my botia Almorhae (9 of them now) and kubotai (only 3, think im gonna switch these out for almorhae) they are schooling nicely in the middle part of the tank, it's great!

Regards

Johan

Actually they are. I trust Piggy to suggest them.;) My Crossocheilus siamensis often roam around the surface and middle levels waiting for me to feed them.

Esomus malayensis, Chela fasciata or various other of the "Flying Barb" family could all fit in with the Loaches and occupy the upper levels.
Ensure a tight fitted lid and some planted vegetation.
So many species of fish yet so little time, space and money to keep them all...

a nice colourful and small fish would be Chela dadiburjori, stays mid to upper parts of the tank is attractive and very peaceful.
here's a pic if you don't know what they are.

Welcome Chalamala, I would love to see some pictures of your present tank if possible!

After ten year your clowns must be massive!
