I went to a small aquarium at the pier in SF -- near Pier 39 -- the Sea Lions are worth the trip. I really liked it. They had regional critters like abalone, a neat shark tank, . . . I was amazed for such cold water the wildlife is varied and beautiful.

OK - so the various locations suggested thus far are:

Chicago - Shedd aquarium
Tennesee - Chatanooga aquarium
California - San Francisco
Cali - Monterey

any other locations, post them here and I'll create a poll in another thread so we can sort out who'd like to go where.

then we just have to coordinate a 'when'...
books. gotta love em!

The Aquarium of the Bay at pier 39 is not really very good. If anyone is coming this way make the MBA #1, a day in San Francisco #2 and perhaps a day in the wine country #3 on your list. (I can suggest all sorts of other places, too, depending on your interests and how long you are staying)

I am willing to host (well, play tour guide, anyway) to anyone who wants to come this way.

Suggestion: If you can fly into Oakland Airport it is usually better than SFO.
Oakland is MUCH smaller, and easier for traffic to pick up passengers. You can arrange a rent a car to be waiting at Oakland.
On the other hand, SFO has a BART station right in the airport. (Bay Area Rapid Transit)
If you are staying anywhere near a BART station (like down town San Francisco) then SFO might be better. No need to rent car, taxi or other to get to your hotel. Many hotel shuttles pick up at SFO, too.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!

I can't anytime soon. My schedule will be busy until summer. School and bowling take up my weekends until June.

How about a possible Toronto trip? I drive close every year on the way to Mich.... What are the fish import laws?

If I drive Chicago is my best choice.

I can possibly talk my husband into a CA wine country vacation, no solo Cali trips, he'd be too jealous. But no trip in May or June.

If there's anyone in the North East/New England area the (former) primary biologist for the New England Aquarium is a friend. I won't be there but i'm sure i can set something interesting up or at least get the ball rolling. I used to know the guys at Vancouver as well, but that was years ago...

Well, of course that's in my backyard. We could get Mike Ophir, Shari maybe Barbara & cybermeez too to do a book signing...

My DE fish club did a behind the scenes tour of the Baltimore aquarium once, very cool & talk about filtration!

But no (CA/ San Francisco) trip in May or June.
Joke/quote:
Mark Twain: "The coldest winter I ever knew was summer in San Francisco"

The city itself can be quite cool in the summer, and Monterey is of course right on the coast, too, and can get cool. Inland can reach 100*F, though temps in the 80s are more common.

Nothing specific.
It may be coming down to individual trips, rather than a larger group get-together.
