New Dojo pics: questions about species & disease (56K no
Got 3 new Dojos.
1 looks very green/yellow, is this a hybrid between Golden Dojo?
The other one has some white blemishes, is that some sort of disease?
And finally, here's a close-up pic of my biggest Dojo; I wish I had a DSLR to capture those eyes

When I see white areas on a fish I am concerned about Columnaris, a bacteria infection. This can start anywhere on the fish. If these bacteria attack the fins it is called Fin Rot. On the body of the fish it has several names:
Saddle Disease (seems to show up first in the dorsal area)
Columnaris (Latin name of the bacteria, Flavobacteria columnaris)
Mouth 'Fungus' (It is not a fungus)
If this is what is going on, here are some treatment hints:
This bacteria grows and spreads faster at warmer temperatures. Keep the tank under 76*F (You would anyway, Dojos are cool water fish)
This bacteria seems to pop up when water conditions are not quite right. Especially check nitrate, but even if all the levels seem OK, a water change to remove the organic debris in the gravel can really help.
Most antibiotics can help, check the label for one of the common names of this disease.
There seem to be several forms of this bacteria, some seem to move REALLY fast, from first symptom to dead fish in about 24 hours.
I have not seen the first one you mention: More yellow showing but still has some spots.

38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.
Happy fish keeping!

thx
Thanks D
I'm keeping temperature low, but it's been hot lately and I've no chiller.
I'll keep an eye on him just in case.
The yellow Dojo is a mystery, that's why I got him in the first place.
A side-by-side pic will reveal how yellow/green he is compared to this tank mate dojos.

I've only had Dojos for about 2 months but one of mine looks very similar to picture number 2. Same coloration and has the light markings. I wouldn't call them white just lighter colored patches. I've only had him for 2 months and haven't been treating him for it, I think it's part of his normal coloration. His behavior is fine, he gets excited when I enter the room and eats out of my hand.
If you notice them growing or if the spots are raised up from the skin I'd start to worry.

I sure hope it's just normal coloration and not a disease.

I'm still amazed looking at the golden (almost phosporus) dojo, the little guy is very active and never shy.

all is well
the small guy with white coloration was indeed sick.
but he's all fine now, no white color anywhere.
the flourescent green yellow one, is still very glow-in-the-dark.
this one is hyperactive. eats a lot and moves so much. the body is also weird, tail seems unproportionally smaller than body.
