Loach id help please..

Post by thepatient8306 » Wed Jun 30, 2010 5:05 pm

New to forum and loaches.. wondering if i could get some help with finding out what type of loach this is. Any help would be appreciated. The shop selling them seemed a bit confused.

Hi 8306, I'd go for S.kohchangensis ? Mark [Madduf] keeps these so might be better equipped to identify that me !

Yeah I would say most likely Schistura kohchangensis, there is a lot of pattern variation among individuals of S.kohchangensis which can make id's tricky.

They are a nice placid Schistura, how many have you got?

Thank you for the responses. I got 2 of them. The pet shop they were in has pretty bare bone tanks.. just gravel and an air stone..

I purchased them before they were even put into the tanks there. They were still in shipping packaging, fairly cheap too. It was the only 2 they had.

The shop i got them at sucks, they dont care for their fish very well, but they always have loaches i dont see anywhere else. They also received a order of Skunk loaches, but i read they they are kind of aggressive.

Nice Loach! Yep you were told right about the skunk Loaches :) They are the original"Brat Pack" . But in a species tank mine were really interesting and entertaining as they interacted with each other.
