Re: Tank bred weather loach
You will eventually have to put a tight lid on that tank and plug up any small holes where tubing used to be, etc., as weather loaches are notorious for escaping from their tanks. It's natural behavior, as they can store oxygen outside the water, and will live for awhile outside if they don't dry out. They can escape at a very young age. I had one get out that wasn't quite two inches long. Just be forewarned ... You might also want some low- to medium-lighting on that tank, not enough to encourage algae, but enough to be able to see by and give some light to the inhabitants.

They are in a 400l tank which is only half filled with water, there is no artificial lighting in the tank as its in the conservatory, I usually run an uv on the tank, but as I thought there was no chance of any fry it was removed and used on another tank. I am thrilled I have seen a golden baby
I thought they were all the brown type. They change so fast they are now really long and the absolute perfect image of an adult fish.

Re: Tank bred weather loach
How many do you think you have now? Really fantastic news!
Re: Tank bred weather loach
They can still get out, and the bigger they get, the easier it will be for them to escape. I really recommend a tight-fitting lid and sealing up any gaps or holes around the filter, etc. It would be a shame to lose any by having them escape and go unnoticed, then dry up and die. They can live for a little while outside the tank, and they can also travel and end up several feet, even yards, away. Why risk it?
