new loaches

Post by bw1358 » Wed Sep 27, 2006 11:38 pm

Hi this is my first post here. I had a general question that i'm sure you all know the answer too. I have 3 big yoyo loaches and i was considering getting more. The main problem i am having is finding them friends that are close in size to them. I am worried the new ones will get bullied. Do you think it's ok if i get smallers ones or is that a bad idea. Mine are nice but at times get a little mean to each other. Also is it sutable to get a dojo loach or two with them?

Hi bw1358, and welcome to LOL.

What size tank are they currently in? What other inhabitants? What are your water parameters?

I got three yoyos at the same time, so I can't really say that the larger ones wouldn't bully the smaller from personal experience. Generally, I'd say it should work if you have a large enough tank with plenty of hiding places, but you may want to wait to hear from someone who's actually done it. 8)

No, I don't think dojos would be good with yoyos. Dojos prefer cooler water and yoyos are tropical.

I have three 4 1/2 inch Yo Yo's and have kept them with tiny baby BN without a problem. They are curious but haven't hurt them at all.

Where are you located?

Likewise. I had two 4" then bought three smaller ones (one of them was absolutely tiny at first). No problems at all, they all get on great. Yoyo's are boisterous, they chase each other around a lot but thats not necessarily mean.
