Introducing my tank

Quick question for you Janma. Do your loach eat live shrimp? And do the shrimp cleanup waste or extra food?

The hillies don´t eat live shrimp, only shrimp pellets. And a big YES for the cleanup. They are excellent janitors for a tank, as long as fish don´t put them on the meny. Waste, food, dead plant parts anything that they can chop up dissapears.

im debating wether or not to get shrimp for cleanup. im afraid the clowns will tear them to shreads. shrimp is their favorite!

I've often wondered about the noise in an underwater environment (spend a lot of time there myself when in the water). The noise from devices like motors, radio, percussion, and voices is amplified and can carry long distances. Wonder if the noise levels from powerheads and filters has an effect on the fish's behaviors? The bubbling/splashing noises are natural sounds, but the motor 'buzz' is not. Does it contribute to shy or reclusive behavior? Aggressive behavior? Stress levels? It seems that hillstreams may like the vibrating 'massage' effect of the powerheads. They lay around on them enough. They also seem to like the sponges on the intakes which (based on your video) also produce some 'noise' from the motor drawing the water up.

We all know how fish will jerk when the tank is tapped or a large falling object shakes the tank. What about motor noise? Are the vibrations felt in the fish's bodies? I would assume so. What effect (if any) does that have on the fish?

Ok--I know...I'm a little nuts. Do other people think about this kind of stuff?

i see you just have a simple 'point-n-shoot' camera without a case, i know some cameras are waterproof, but this is just too cool!!

My children and I were fascinated with your underwater video. I didn't realize it could be so noisy underwater. You have a beautiful tank.

The tank has now been assimilated by hillstreams . 1 new powerhead and the total current is now ~2550 l/h. Plants have made room for more stones. I have a blueprint in my head for a new tank where all filter/heaters/powerheads are hidden, but that maybe a project for 2008.

Aah, I have some small rasboras there but they are quite tiny and allthough theres about 30 of them they are quite invisible. Any suggestions? Should be a fish that wont eat fry or shrimps, been checking out some danios but haven't found the ONE.

Your tank looks so beautiful Janne. I really don't think the equipment looks too intrusive either.

I wouldn't advise Danios as dither fish if you wish to raise good amounts of hillstream eggs/fry. They're lovely lovely fish, but very greedy.
