My tanks

Being stuck indoors at present with a sprained ankle , I decided to do some overdue water-changes today. I just could not stand long enough before. I thought I would take some pics.

For European viewers who size tanks a bit different to North America, I've quoted dimensions in inches.................... L x H x W

30 x 12 x 12 Quarantine tank in Bedroom (set up as River-Tank)

Contains 5 Sewellia lineolata

30 x 19 x 12 River-Tank in Lounge.


Gastromyzon occelatus, Homaloptera smithi, Aborichthys elongatus, Gastromyzon sp., Danio kyathit

48 x 19 x 18 River-Tank in Lounge....right by my side as I write.


Gastromyzon ctenocephalus, Gastromyzon sticulus, 2 undescribed Gastromyzon sp., Beaufortia kweichowensis, Pseudogastromyzon cheni, Stiphodon sp. goby, Sinobotia pulchra, Puntius mahecola, Danio choprae, Danio roseus, unidentified Schistura sp.

Nice tanks. Where did you pick up all the rocks? Any special treatment given to them? Any problems with the wood turning the water?

Most of those rocks and pebbles within the 48" River-Tank were collected from the shores of Lake Superior while on a camping trip. They are probably granite. I got them specifically for this tank because they toned so nicely with the substrate that was already in the tank. It used to house some South-American cichlids. The driftwood also came from the lakeshore.
I just scrubbed the rocks, not particularly dilligently after they had been dry for a while. The driftwood was pretty much sun-bleached and old. I just removed odd remains of bark and weighted it down in the tank. Much of what you see has now been submerged for 4 + years and a lot of the wood used to be in the 6 foot tank with the Royal Panaque. He pretty much smoothed it all out with his rasping teeth.

Thanks Mike. I consider the 4 x 2 x 2 very much "work in progress". The right side needs some more planting. I need to get rid of the Royal Panaque before I contemplate that though. Plan is just to have the tank as a low-maintenance planted tank for small species.
Needs a nice big shoal of something small and bright.

I'm too busy doing re-writes for a certain publication......OK, I admit it, they're finished......still, I spent too long yesterday at the computer with my foot not elevated. I have to rest it more today.

If I use fabric paints, that's only a one-off shirt.

Maybe I could draw.......not today......maybe......maybe not.

Look, I'm off work at least till some time next week. Maybe I'll see if I get 'inspired'.

I never knew that you kept tiger barbs.
How do you like them? I was thinking of gettting some plus they would keep the hair algae issues in check I'd imagine.

I got the TB's recently to act as dither fish. Works too because the Clowns are out more. Sweet deal....near adult size for $1.99! Went back up to $3.45 the next day.
They graze on the Microsoreum pterops Windelov quite a bit, so they might eat hair algae. No idea. All I know for sure is they eat like pigs.
I would only advise them if you can keep a lot and you have no other fish with flowing fins or that are slow. TB's can be nasty picky lil' b*ggers, especially if there's only a few of them.
