Hey everyone, thanks so much for you help and words of encouragement.
I ended up losing all but one of my clowns. It was quite disheartening, to say the least, however, the one remaining one has made a full recovery.
I thought he was going to die as well. For two weeks, he stayed near the top of the tank, too weak to move, placed on top of some slate I have holding a large root down. He wouldn't move from the spot and wouldn't eat and was incredibly gaunt. I kept trying to feed him but he wouldn't take anything. Finally he nibbled some bloodworms I put immediately in front of his nose. I did this as many times a day as he would take them. He kept getting stronger and would eat more everytime, still not moving from that spot, but I had to put it almost in his mouth for him to take it.
Anyway, to make a long story short, he was doing the loachy dance for me today. None of my fish have ever done the loachy dance for me. And he didn't run and hide when I came close to watch, which was great for me. I had to call the kids and my wife to come and look. Was it his way of thanking me? Maybe, maybe not, but it was a great reward, nonetheless.
I'm not sentimental by any means but he probably healed me emotionally while I healed him physically.
So, in the end, I'm not going to tear my tank down. I'll give it another go.
Thanks so much for all your help, and sorry I didn't respond to anyone...I just didn't have anything to say.
I also bought some Horse face loaches....but that's for another thread...
Sincerely,
Thomas
