I second the assassin snail suggest along with trying to avoid overfeeding. I have also recently observed in a fishless 10 gallon planted tank my larger ghost shrimp holding down medium sized pond snails so they could not move, and eating them alive. they also skim up and down the glass eagerly looking for the eggs; my amano and crystal reds don't seem to be interested in eating the snails or their eggs. ghosties could be a fun addition to the tank; they would scavenge any extra food sitting around, help keep the snails in check and their young could be easily eaten by the frog or guppies so they wont breed like mad.
Freddy, I don't much appreciate being told I'm ignorant by someone who called me a f-ing retard

Additionally, while buying an fish for a utilitarian purpose is not abuse, not caring for it properly is. This would not not just include it being housed in too small of a tank, but it not being provided with the adequate size school, etc.
