you have to add new tank water every few days to make sure there is enough for the algea to "eat" and grow
too many lovely fishies, not enough room for more tanks - fishkeeping nightmare

Oddly enough, pretty much every ballitorid I've ever owned has preferred prepared or dried foods over the wormy stuff.
In any case, here's an old textbook trick to get our limnivores to feed;
take whatever stone you're trying to cultivate algae on.
crack two egg whites, and mix with a handful of boiled, shelled, and mashed peas, and a bit of powdered flake.
paint the aforementioned mixture (or "slap it on thick, baby", which ever you prefer) onto said rock and let it dry.
place rock into tank right before lights out.
If the fish aren't too far gone already (this can happen with many awfuchs grazers), then this should get them to eat.

Mine will eat about anything I put in the tank so try different things as others have suggested.
All of mine do like blood worms and they seem to like live black worms.
I also feed them.
Top Fin Algae thins
TetraMin Variety wafers
I also have a lot of lighting to get algae growth on the rocks in the tank.
They do like to hide, my Sewellias more than the others.
You say they like the area by the heater.. is there less water flow there? I know some of mine like to stay out of the direct flow of water while other love it.
They are not 'normal' fish and each seems to have a personality.
