The Spotties have spawned again!

Post by Emma Turner » Thu Jan 17, 2008 8:09 pm

Walking past the river tank about an hour ago, I thought I saw something tiny move, just out of the corner of my eye. I did a 'double take' and noticed a tiny Sewellia sp. 'spotted' fry sitting on the sand! :D I took a closer look and there were actually 5 of them all hanging out together! 8) 8) 8) This is the first time the fish have bred since moving them into this 4ft river tank last year, so I'm well pleased. They are 5mm TL and are all staying within 8" of each other. If anything comes too close, they keep watch but retreat nearer to the piles of cobbles where they can dive down and hide.

Here are a few pics, not all that great I'm afraid, but they are tiny and forgaing about near to the back of the tank:

I couldn't get all 5 together as some seemed more scared of me and the camera than the others.

Here's a quick little vid too:

That's great news, Emma!!! :D
We will, of course, expect regular pics.
I fear my lone S. lineolata fry is gone. I have not seen him in three weeks.

Thank you all. I'm going to check the filter over the weekend because I haven't been in there for a while and the fry are all hanging about on the right hand side of the tank where the filter intake is. In the last tank, the S. lineolata took over the right hand side and the Spotties the left. The fact that the young are all over on the right makes me wonder if the spawning occured near the filter intake this time.

Man its amazing how different fry patterns are. If I didnt know what they were I'd guess a tiny dario or something!

Oh, and congrats!

Just wish there were someone around Columbus with spawning hillstreams :D ...

Yeah but the point was to get em for cheaper

I was going to email him about if there was a price break if I got a few of them... then I read the part about a $40 minimum order anyway so I figured he wouldnt be interested in a discount for an order around his minimum anyhow... If I do setup a river tank I am probably going to order them from Frank's since he has many other loaches too, a few that I am wanting to get.
