Skunk Loach Question

Post by Slough Shark » Sat Jun 28, 2008 1:59 pm

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if skunk loaches would harass a bamboo or filter shrimp?

Thanks,
Taylor

Hi Taylor,
Unfortunately that would be a terrible combination - the shrimp would be harrassed to death. Skunks really need to be kept only with robust species of the same aggressive temperament.

Ok, I can make that compromise. I'd rather have the skunks than the shrimp.

Thanks Emma,

Large group them .They get mean when older and comfortable in their tank. Re decoration helps. I would think they might do good with Syncrossus helodes and was thinking of adding some myself but they are the devil.....

I recently found, and of course, had to purchase two skunks...mostly because they never have anything but clowns in my little berg of a town. I put them in a qtank with lots of hiding places. They never left each other alone. I was amazed that such a small, cute fish could be so ruthless! Unfortunately, they contracted ich and I couldn't save them in time, as they had taken to spending ALL of their time hiding from one another and I didn't see it at first. Not a fish for the faint of heart! Martin doesn't call them 'punk loaches' for nothing! I would imagine they would destroy even a hardy shrimp.
