My thoughts exactly, Jim. They have a very similar body shape to each other, but the colouration and size are different. Both were sole survivors of a 'shakey' batch of fish that came in from Vietnam, which they had simply listed as 'Homaloptera sp'., but which HH reckoned were actually Annamia.
Have you got any pics of yours? If it's anything like mine, it probably hides from you and the camera though...

I have been trying to get pics of mine for some time, but he isn't very cooperative. I do have one pic, but its in my old computer and I haven't had the opportunity to get it into the new one. Its not very good quality, though.
By the way, was the only fish that showed up in a shipment labeled "homaloptera sp. " at a lfs.
He occasionally comes out and sits in the current in front of the tank but generally hangs out behind a bubble wand with a fish that looks similar to your large Amnamaia. I think that fish is either a H. yunnanensis or a Sinohomaloptera kwangensis (sp?), however.

That's interesting, I wonder if they came from the same supplier? It's funny that you say yours occasionally comes out and sits at the front of the tank in the flow, as that is exactly what mine does! Here is a photo of the underside of this fish, as it clings to the front glass in the flow from the Eheim spraybar (taken last night):

Ok, here's a photo of one of the baby loachies taken today 24/6. As you can see it was 'clinging' to the back glass 
.....
I can't work out whether the pectoral and ventral fins are overlapping?

Guessing is fun. So is graphic extrapolation......
Just playing because I wanted to see what it looked like. I'm totally not convinced, but it's possible. For my mind there's way too many proportional changes and it's illogical at this stage (IMO) to have striping in the dorsal and caudal but not the other fins in a fish with such bold adult markings.
The mouth does it for me. I can't see that structure altering drastically. Also look at the gill plate area. So I'm in the Schistura camp at present, but I'm still not convinced that they're Schistura balteata, but what else could they be?
