Sewellia lineolata pictures

I finally found some Sewellia lineolata. Aquarium World got some in that are a nice sized 2 inch TL. Doug at the store was very nice in catching out all of the females that he had. I have 2 females and 4 males. They have settled in and are very actively grazing over all of the rocks. Here are the best pictures that I can get for now.

i managed to finally get a few of these today the lfs i use regular finally got some in so i had first pic on the tank and got myself 4 but i may go back tomorrow for the rest of the tank lol

it's great that you've got some now Keith, at times i find them to be the most entertaining of the loaches, especially when you see them pounce on a clump of tubifex as if to say, it's mine alll mine.

I got a good look at these on Thursday and they were very nice.
I only saw one female, but I thought there would probably be more hiding somewhere.

Thanks everyone. I am really enjoying watching them. I think I have been assimilated! Their movement is very interesting to watch and their playful skirmishes are quite entertaining. They are quickly cleaning the algae off of all surfaces, so I moved some rocks from another tank that are algae covered into the tank. It did not take them long to find them.

I have not seen them eat any food other than the algae. Hopefully they will learn to eat bloodworms and other frozen foods too. I have ordered some of the gel food that can be spread on rocks discussed in http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php?t=13345.

They are certainly one of the coolest hillstreams to own.
Doug and I watched them fight over a rock in the middle of the store tank when I was there Thursday.
I think you will find that they take to bloodworms, brine shrimp and pellets fairly quickly, so feeding shouldn't be a problem.
By the way, where are you getting the gel food? My supply will be dwindling in a few months.

Congratulations on finding Sewellia, Keith! When they have been settled for a time, they will take all sorts of foods, frozen and dried. Mine go mad for any type of sinking catfish pellet.

The bloodworm version can also be found at Petsmart (at least some of them) in the reptile isle.
Its a bit more difficult to use than the discontinued brine shrimp and water flea versions, but the sewellia will probably love it too.
