Lighting

Post by lovemyloach » Wed Apr 22, 2009 9:40 pm

Hi. What's the best lighting for clown loaches? I"m setting up a 30 gallon and I know they don't like bright lights. Thanks

Well, a lot of aquarium hoods have fluorescent lights, which I would think is fine unless you need more lighting for plants. The key I would think is having enough hiding places and plants that it would create "shade" for the loaches. However, 30 gallons is really small for clown loaches. I would think clowns need at least a 4' aquarium to start with since they grow to be so large and a small aquarium might stunt their growth.

I would beg you not to put clown loaches in a 30g tank. Maybe for a q tank, but not for a display tank. They actually will outgrow the tank quite quickly and will need a lot more room and hiding spots. Save your time and money and wait for something larger. Hopefully, you will heed the advice of the experts here (I'm not calling myself an expert) and get a larger tank or think of getting a different species.

Just read up on your fish before you buy them and you can never go wrong. Good luck and happy fish keeping!
