Its amazing how agile she is for her size, she has been like that for around 3 weeks now so I don't think it will be long before she expels the eggs.

She gets like this on a regular basis and then thins down again, I suspect that she is expelling the eggs rather than them spawning but who knows

Given your other successes I would say that if anyone can, you can

I suppose that even if she does just expel them, then it's good eating for everybody else, that's a lot of eggs

Nice yoyo's you got there. My female is just as fat. Do you notice that when she rests she kinda tilts to the side? Mine does, it's funny looking.

What would be the minimum size for an almorhae to fill with eggs. I have some small ones - right at 2" and 1 of them almost looks like it is in need of a squeezing. It seems too soon for this to be possible, and they have only been in the tank for 2 months. Still fully in YoYo pattern - no reticulation yet. The others look well fed but this one in particular is pushing it. At least double the gut size. And it doesn't reduce at all between feedings.

Is this is even a remote possibility??? If so I will put up a pic for review by the panel of experts.

I have a couple around 60mm that are also fat but they are complete pigs, one still has classic pattern while the other ones pattern is starting to reticulate.

Like yours they dont slim down during feeds but they are always grubbing around for something, I dont think either have eggs I think they are just fat

I think the smaller they are the more this can happen as I have two rostrata of the same size and one of them is always fat as well.

i'm surprised that none of my almorhae are as rotund as yours mate, they are all nearly 4 inches body length.
i can't see them all being males?

Thanks for the feedback Mad Duff.

I was looking a bit more and while she's huge the hugeness does not carry as far aft towards the stern section as on your big girl. Just a pig I believe is the correct answer here.

These almorhae are knuckleheads for sure - but beauties and amusing to watch. One thinks he's a salmon - determined to swim into the filter return (and this is high velocity from a sump). He sometimes comes close - if there wasn't an immediate 90 degree elbow past the diffuser I'd have to put up a safety device.

This group are all about 4 to 5 years old and all around the 4" mark or just bigger, I did have 3 big females at nearly 6" and a big male of around the same size but I lost all 3 for no apparent reason last year
