The cost of a $4 fish

Post by Katy » Sun Nov 29, 2009 3:38 pm

I think this is where we stand so far:

Heater x 2
5 more B Kubotai (as Suzzy jumped and we needed at leastt 5)
decorative items with safe hiding places
bogwood x 3
Rpelacement parts for Fluval
More media for Fluval
Glass for new aquarium and top
Aquarium-safe silicone
Hinges for aquarium cover
Rena XP2 x 2 (so when the fluval finally goes...)
AquaClear 70
Testing suppllies
Rid Ich
A whole bunch of other meds (“in case”)
Levamisole -- enough to dose a whole herd of goats
Substrate -- both sand and E co-Complete
Frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, sinking Hikari pellets of various types, etc
A lot of plants
Potassium permanganate for plants
UV filter
New gravel vacuum
Korelia powerhead

Thank God Maggie wasn't a Clown or we'd be shopping for a new house!!!

LOL! $4 dollar fish indeed! I hate to think about the total cost of the Black Moor that my wife and I bought shortly after we graduated college. It not only got me back into loaches, but into reef keeping as well.

Yeah, that is only "so far" ....

and I would love a big school of Rosy Loaches, and he wants Yoyos and Striata, and then there are those hillstreams..... YIKES!!!

We've only been into this a month now, and the first thing he showed the electrician (for wiring the generator) was the fishtanks.

And now a 120 gallon tank and stand.... and all that goes with it. Including the cost of shoring up the floor under it.

Sigh.

Maggie will love all that space to swim around in ....

Yeah!!!!!
Katy, I am so happy for you. I really agree with the 120 (you knew that already) but I KNOW it was a scary leap.
Let's face it, with your ( and cloudhands) loach addiction, it was just a matter of time AND you got a great deal.
it WILL be worth the sacrifices!
I am SO excited to see the next part! Please keep us posted with how you dealt with the various issues around such a tank. I have a feeling SOMEONE will be crawling around under the house. Hopefully they will have warm clothes on.

Oh, and Larry is doing FINE!!
I hope to post pictures soon.

Glenna: Looking forward to photos!

I think you are our southern doppleganger:: a few months ago an innocent purchase of a cute little fish, then WHOOSH... down the rabbit hole into full-scale loach madness and huge tank! And even a tank rupture....

Yeah that is kind of the way I feel about my six dollar Jack Dempsey. Pet shop owner stated that it could live with my single Oscar. Then one day I woke up to my girlfriend yelling "Jack is killing Oscar!" Jumped up and sure enough scales floating in tank, and the Jack tearing on the Oscar which was laying on its side most likely with in minutes of its death. Put the Jack in a bucket and ran to Petsmart with the credit card. Had to pay full retail on a 55 gallon set up because I could not wait to have anything shipped. Before put them together I read multiple forums which people have kept them together but evidently not mine.

Good luck with the 120 tank!! I'm envious as I would love a tank that size.!
