Loach ID

Post by KLKelly » Tue Jun 29, 2010 7:06 pm

Someone posted a picture of their "pleco" on GAB. I think it is a loach by the body shape. I'd like to learn more about its needs but can't do this without an ID. Right now its in with goldfish.

It was just moved from the goldfish tank and looks a little unhappy with the move in this picture (the only one available at the moment).

I know you guys will know :)

That's not a loach, but the gold form of Gyrinocheilus aymonieri.
This fish is often sold as Chinese algae eater and is often misidentified as a loach.

In Britain they used to be refered to as Sucking loaches :) though not aggresive as youngsters , they can develope attitudes as they become larger :!:

Very true. My standard colored chinese algae eater grew into a terror, picking on any fish small or slow enough.
Just call me Pierce :)
