RO Water - Minerals Required

Post by Botia Robert » Mon Oct 04, 2010 3:57 am

Hi, I often see topics about the use of RO water here. I read that certain minerals need to be replaced.

What I never hear about is what minerals need replacing and what levels are required for these minerals and how to measure these levels.

I am considering using RO water for my clown loaches. I presently use rainwater but I have problems with pH falling because there is not enough minerals to buffer the water.

I would welcome any comments. Thanks.

I would be interested as well...

Would assume the same would hold for straight rainwater? Or not?

Basically you'll need to add Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, and trace minerals back to the water.

There are mineral mixes you can purchase, such as KENT R/O Right or SEACHEM Equilibrium.

For soft water, both the GH and KH would be between 4 - 8 degrees.

You'd need GH and KH test kits.
