borneo python loaches?

Post by sh79 » Mon Oct 04, 2010 6:40 pm

i saw a pic of a loach on another site called a borneo python loach. is it real or photoshopped? the pic looked like a loach with a pattern similare to a borneo blood python. if the fish is real any info size agreesion feeding size? plus if you have a pic you could post them.

Hi sh79,

There are a small number of nemacheilid loaches in the trade at the moment, going under the 'Borneo Python Loach' name tag. They are said to be found alonside Kottelatlimia hipporhynchos. Did the ones you saw look anything like the fish in the second pic here?

I do have better pics of those loaches, but won't be able to upload them until later in the week.

There is also a large freshwater eel available under the 'Borneo Python Eel' name which has very strong markings, similar to the Borneo blood python as you described above.

A species of khuli loach from Borneo, Pangio alternans, has very python-like markings, also:

If it's a nemacheilid, then you're probably looking at a size of approx 10cm (4"). Can't be more specific as it's not clear yet whether these are a new species or not. Cost is something I couldn't comment on as there are so many factors that dictate fish prices.
