The spawning of Sewellia lineolata, first pictures

Post by Menu » Mon Feb 07, 2011 11:25 am

A couple of weeks my S. lineolata spawn again the whole day.
So I take the chance and took some pics.

First, the male advertises long to the female, after the fins of the female will nibbled.

The male tries to hook the female with his fins.

Then they take off to lay eggs.

The flight itself is spectacular!
It is very difficult to get good clear pics.

Pardon my honesty - I am a Northerner

Excellent photographs, Menu! :D It is always great to see proper detailed evidence of loach spawnings. Have you found any fry?

Wow, great work! Maybe these photos could be added to this article(http://www.loaches.com/articles/breeding-sewellia), to preserve them for other hobbyists? I have had 2 females and a male for just a few weeks. Any tips on inducing spawning or saving eggs/raising fry?

Of course Emma, in the tank are fry in all sizes. Unfortunately, most eggs are eaten by the shrimp, snails and white clouds, but a few always disappear.

Well done Menu and as Emma says well documented :!: though in fairness any kind of spawning is welcome news , between Menu ,Mark and Mick there's been some great acheivments concerning loaches in recent times , is it me or has it got something to do with the letter M :?: Master Breeders indeed
