Serpenticobitis octozona Requirements

Post by cybermeez » Thu Feb 17, 2011 3:38 pm

Hi guys,

Is a river tank required to keep Serpenticobitis octozona or can I add them to my current loach tank? It's got 2 MaxiJet 1200's (one with a venturi attached), an Eheim 2 canister filter, and a HOB with bio wheels. The flow is not unidirectional but more turbulent.

Also, what is their temperment like?

Thanks,
Robin

Hi Robin,

Our S. octozonas seem to really appreciate a good flow in the tank. They are not in a set-up that has an actual river tank manifold, but it does have a powerful external filter with spraybar return, in addition to the tank's built in filter. We've observed that they prefer to spend a lot of time in areas of stronger flow, and they actually cling to vertical surfaces whilst grazing in a similar way to hillstream loaches. I think your 'turbulent flow' set up would be fine for them, it certainly sounds like there is plenty of water movement and oxygenation. Temperament-wise, we have found them to be very peaceful.

Graeme.
