How many L for 10 botia macracanthus??

Post by Cobitidae » Fri May 13, 2011 8:25 am

Hi everyone.
I have a 400L tank for my 10-11 botia.
I know it is not eought, but i want to keep them as babies there and then transfer them in a bigger tank in 3 years i think.
How many L for 10 botia? Also considering breeding!
I know someone who breeded botia more than onc in 3000L...is a smaller tank enough anyway?

I think 400L is good to start. I remember reading somewhere that a 120G (450ish L) is what they end up needing eventually. 4'x2'x2'
For breeding, http://www.loaches.com/articles/clown-l ... ated-items
I've never heard of anyone getting their clowns to breed myself.

Have you read this page? http://www.loaches.com/species-index/cl ... cracanthus

From this page:

Adults will eventually require an aquarium measuring at least 6’ x 2’ x 2’. Even small specimens of this species must initially be housed in an aquarium that is 4ft long as a minimum. Anything smaller can cause these fast-swimming fish to become stunted and stressed.

6 ' = 1.8288 m = 1828.8 liters
4 ' = 1.2192 m = 1219.2 liters
2 ' = 0.6096 m = 609.6 liters

400 liters = 105.668821 US gallons

6’ x 2’ x 2’ = about 180 US gallons
