Loach from my locality.

Post by redshark1 » Sun Dec 04, 2011 12:26 pm

Hi, having enjoyed the loaches from Borneo and Western Ghats I thought I'd post my only pic of my only local loach species in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, the Stone Loach Nemachaelis barbatus. Enjoy (hopefully!).

I used the "OOPS, there's something in the net I just stirred around" method

Twas in a pond and I was surveying for newts. There was a population of non-native Alpine Newts escaped from a local school surviving, nay thriving, there.

WOW!

That is a beautiful little newt!!

ALSO, THE LOACH IS VERY LOVELY. I do not think we have any indigenous loaches in N.C., but it would be VERY nice to have some.
Do you do much local "fish chasing"?

Hi borneo 24.

I have a fish which looks similar to this. It was sold to me as a Butterfly Plec but I know it as a HIllstream Loach. It is nearly 9 years old now and resides in my 4ft sand-bottomed catfish tank with smaller catfish species and African Dwarf Frogs.

I really should attempt to identify it properly, but i have assumed it is the common one. Unfortunately I have no picture as the the aquarium is difficult to photograph. It is on a windowsill with good light but without direct sunlight and has no artificial lights.

My Hillstream Loach was purchased 09/02/03 and passed away on 17/12/14.

I think that makes it 11 years and 10 months in my care.

I don't know how old it was when purchased from the LFS.
