My dojo has a wound
Hey guys.. I'm really worried about my dojo. I just fed him and noticed he has bloody looking wound on his left side.
He's in a tank with just him and a betta. They have been together in the same tank for about 2 years. I've had my dojo for 7 years. He's acting normally, ate well tonight, acting fine. I tested my water and everything is normal. I managed to get a picture of it.

I would treat with some Melafix, personally.

Do you think the betta would have done this to him after being with him for so long?

I have no idea, really. Not sure what could have caused it, unfortunately. That's just how I would personally go about treating it. If you suspect it might be a problem, you could move the betta to a quarantine tank while you help your dojo heal.

I moved the betta out last night, just as a precaution. I picked up some of that medicine today at the store. After it's healed I'll move the betta back in just to see if it's okay to leave them together. Thank you so much for your help. I do love my dojo

I'm glad I could help a bit. I'm sorry that I don't have any other advice for you, but I'm confident that keeping the water clean and treating with Melafix should get him healed up soon.
Please let me know how he's doing!

I would just keep an eye on him. If he's otherwise healthy and eating well, and the wound hasn't become infected, it will very likely heal on its own. One must be careful using Melafix or Pimafix. Never use full dosage to begin with. Usually, it doesn't take as much as they say to use unless there's a very serious condition. And some of those medications can be tricky, toxicity-wise. Since your dojo is still eating well and behaving normally, I would just let nature be its own doctor. Just watch out for infection. Keep the water super clean. Moving the betta was a good idea.

He's doing great! I moved the betta back in 2 days after I took him out. I found out that using the melafix wouldn't hurt him. I used the melafix for 6 days. Did a 25% water change twice. He's healed up completely and I'm so happy! Thank you again for all your help!
