I've had six Clown Loaches for the last 19 years and I've never had this.

In terms of repair, fishes are very good at this given good living conditions i.e. good water quality (low nitrate, high oxygen, regular 10% to 30% weekly water changes) and good quality food.

Also, keep your sister away from your Clown Loach

Look around your tank, are there any sharp or tight decorations? Take them out. Chunk out of the tail says nippy tankmate to me. Keep the water extra clean, I'd do 30-50% water changes every 3 or 4 days if possible, minimum weekly. Good luck!

The only thing we have in this tank is 3 pieces of driftwood and its heavily planted, we have a 3d rock wall made of foam and cement and there are 2 little caves in it for the intakes of my cannister filter with the intake baskets taking up most of the room I guess the loaches could squeeze between the day I noticed this was the day I cleaned out one of my cannisters and I guess with it off maybe the clown loach could have been nosing around and when I turned the filter back on it scared it you can see the inlet cave there is a big Java fern in front of it here is a video with the loach in it

I hope it isn't a heater burn. Do your heaters have guards on them?

Beautiful aquarium by the way, I love it and could watch that all night LOL!

Thx for posting the vid!

I would make extra sure my fish cannot contact my heater. Heater guards are cheap and have worked 100% for me over the 15 years I have had them so I highly recommend their use and rate them essential.

My clown loach is healing nicely he only has the deepest part of the scrape showing now the rest has started to heal by turning grey now starting to go back to the original colors and the end of his tail is growing back

I raised the temp to 86 used coppersafe and salt for secondary infection they say loaches don't tolerate these easily so I gradually did all this
