Is this B. histrionica?

Post by ankelikuu » Thu Mar 20, 2014 2:26 pm

Two more loaches moved in yesterday. One is quite surely Botia histrionica, but how about this one?

I have a similar looking fish, the second (and the rest of the following) pictured in this thread: http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25114

It was sold as a kubotai, but as you can see, I'm not so sure.

Gee, that's a tough one. Judging by the lateral lines forming between the "ladders" my guess is kubotai but it could be an unusual histrionica. It doesn't look like rostrata to me... What is it's size?

It's about 5,5-6 cm.

I've got one that looks nearly like this. I suspect that it is a B. Kubotai, but I've never been certain. It was obtained in a batch sold as B. Histrionica, but they turned out to be mostly B. Rostrata and B. Kubotai. It's very hard to positively ID many of the loaches in the Botia genus as they are all so very similar with a few obvious exceptions (such as B. Striata).
