Levamisole

If you want to experiment, why don't you just take Planaria to a small container and see what concentration of Levamisole kills it (if any)?, or try other drugs.
I did this with a nonparasitic nematodes that somehow spread in a new tank.
Not all that useful as practical knowledge (wrong worms), but still interesting to see what works, what does not.

True. I haven't even considered doing a smaller experiment. I thought I'd do a test on my 10g snail tanks before I treated my main tanks though. The other objective, which I never mentioned, was to see if Levamisole HCl had any effects on cherry shrimp, snails, daphnia, plants, and small juvenile rainbowfish that are in the snail tanks. No ill effects so far.
In 2 weeks, I'll probably do another treatment.

It's been 2 weeks since my last update. For the past 7 days I haven't seen any planaria in either of those snail tanks. Yesterday, I've redosed the tanks with Levamisole HCL at 2ppm. This hasn't spurred any planaria to come crawling on the glass either. All my other critters are doing fine though. Maybe it just takes a few weeks of time to kill planaria. I'll keep watching though.
Arggh got confused with the quoting here - hope this looks right.

How are you going to get hold of it?
Levamisole is not available over the counter in the UK you will need to find a vet who can supply it. I have been lucky enough to find a local vet who specialises in exotic pets (yes, fish are exotic). He was aware of the use of Levamisole to treat fish and had most of a 500ml pack of 'Levacide' pig de-wormer left from the last person who was after some. I was able to buy 30ml for £3.52 which should treat our tanks.
I would be very cautious in importing this from overseas, there are usually lots of restrictions on medicines coming into this country.
In case you can't find one locally to you the vet i went to was:

Hi adampetherick
To track down the Levamisole I first contacted one of our Local Vetinary Surgeries in Guildford. Stocton Vetinary Surgery on Woodbridge road. They were unable to track down the Levamisole, but gave us the name and number of Chris Gardner.
LES.. phoned up and spoke to him and his colleague (as he was away at first) and then arranged to go over to pick some up.
I'd phone first before going over if I were you then they can have it ready.
