Hi all,

Thought you migt like to see some pics of the hillstream loaches that came in directly from my Vietnamese supplier last week. They had them simply listed as "Homaloptera sp" and they have said they were collected from the River Nam Cat Tien in Lam Dong province. Sadly, they arrived in bad condition, but we will do our best for the ones that made it

Beautiful fish, I think you'll agree.

Yes absolutely beautiful fish Emma. I'll take a stab at Annamia normani . It's the only fish like that which Fishbase specifically lists as Vietnamese in occurence. My initial instinct was a Balitora sp. but I can't find a Vietnamese occurence for any species.

I bet if HHN sees this he may be able to come up with an ID. Your pictures (of course) are excellent for that purpose.

I would post some on Petfrd. com too.

Siiiiiiggghhh.............
Martin.

Because they have only a single unbranched fin ray on the pectoral fins (and I presume the pelvic fins because I cannot see them clearly), this would be Annamia.

Nice fish, Emma.
They look a bit like the fish I have that I have never been sure if they are Balitora Kwangsiensis or Homaloptera yunnanensis (based on pics I have seen) but are obviously a different species.
Throw in some bloodworms and brine shrimp and and I'm sure they will be fine.

Thanks for all your comments and help with the ID guys! :D
They seem to be feeding ok, so hopefully I'll be able to get more pictures in due course. It's always a real treat when unexpected loaches turn up. 8)
