Purchasing Loach Question

Post by Glostik » Sun Feb 05, 2006 4:41 pm

At my local LFS they had some 8 inch monsters for sale.

They were traded in by someone 3 days ago, Im wondering how long I should wait to purchase them. I normally havent found this big a loach for sale, so i wanted to know if anything i needed to look for.

They were breathing kind of heavy and were grayed out a bit, i felt bad the tank didnt have enough hiding spaces for how big they were.

The price was just right, only $40 US each.

The only advice that comes to mind is you should have a very large, very mature tank for them to end up in. 120 gallons minimum, IMO. I assume you're talking about clown loaches?

purchasing loaches

Post by jerry_tyler » Mon Feb 06, 2006 12:27 am

I was wondering, if the large clowns were in dallas? I bought 2- 7to 8 inch ones today along with 3 - 5 inch ones. today at the same place. I thought they were very reasonable at 39.00 a piece. I have been looking for a while. They are going in my 540 gallon tank. They act like they really like it. Sorry if these were the ones. But I am a happy man.

Sorry, But I have never in personally seen any clowns the size of the two large ones in person. Every time I have seen any the size of the others they are not forsale. They are being displayed. If you see anymore and don"t want them please let me know. They do need a big tank. It wouldn't be fare to them to keep them in a small tank. Chris is going to have some 5+ inch clowns friday. Thats what he told me. Good luck. Hope you find what you want
