My clowns love shrimp!!!!!

Post by JonGuerriero » Mon Dec 25, 2006 10:06 am

And I don't mean the stuff from the pet store. I bought som pre-cooked frozen shrimp from the fish market for Christmas and decided to try and feed some to the loaches...they love it (I thawed it first of course)! I put some in the clown tank and some in the skunk and yoyo tank and both tanks devoured the shrimp. I feed my fish lots of different foods including fresh veggies, but I've never seen the clowns this happy about food!

Merry Christmas!!!!!

Prawns (shrimp) are my clown loaches favourite food. Marge in particular goes crazy for them!

i hope your not feeding them COOKED shrimp
when you cook the shrimp it looses its natural vitamins and beta carotine
always use the raw uncooked kind for the best nutrition

plus you never know how they were cooked
they could also have additives involved

i only say this cuz thats the best easiest food to prepair for piranhas

the shells have the best color enhancer around

Ok, pardon my ignorance, but I know little to nothing about shrimp in terms of eating it (I was turned off from it from a bad experience as a kid... picked up the shrimp and ate it, tail and all from the tray  OUCH!!) Which type of shrimp do they prefer? And how do I know if it's uncooked or not? I honestly have no idea

welp normal food store shrimp works
if it is from the freezer section it will tell you on the bag if there cooked or uncooked

i personally like to get the ones from the fish department
there usually thawed
when i get home a take off the shells
and put a certian ammount for each feeding into a ziplock bag
and freeze the ziplocks
then all you got to do is takem out a few hours before the feeding for the defrost and choppem up

with most shrimp you cant refreeze them
it just gets nasty smelling and such

i hope that helps
its a good food to feed

i ate shrimp with the shell on all the time.. it's a bit tough but I didn't have any ill affects from it... it's good for the nails...

go to the grocery store in the sea food section.. They're either labled 'shrimps' or 'prawn'. When shrimps are cooked, they turn firm, white & pink.. When raw, they're transluscent, grey, squishy, and smells like the sea..(well, they should)... But most time they're frozen and are marked as "Raw".

they're yummy for humans as well.

If fed as part of a hugely varied and nutritious diet, there is no problem with feeding them on cooked shrimp, providing that you check that no additives have been added.

frozen shrimps are actually 'fresher' than unfrozen ones...
when shrimps are harvested, they're processed and go straight into the freezer unlike non-frozen ones.. they could sit around for days...

same for frozen cooked shrimps.. I always buy those because they taste the best... for me that is.. not the fish.
