Restocking my 55

Post by botiaboy » Wed Jan 17, 2007 1:09 pm

My 55 gallon loach tank just got decimated by an ich outbreak, and now all thats left is a common pleco(just my luck the fish that I was going to return survived). Anyway, I'm ready to get some new fish. How do I clean it out so that no ich is left?I don't want to have to cycle it again. Also, I want to restock it with loaches. What should I get? I'm thinking yoyos, maybe kubotai, and If I can find any, a sinibotia species. Any suggestions?
My loaches:
5 kubotai
5 almorhae
5 kuhli
5 zebra
1 aborichthys

I am paraniod about ick and will tell you that the only way I can be sure that no ick remains is to let the tank run for a month without any fish :).

You could leave your 55 empty of fish for a while to kill off any remnants of the ich, you could then transfer the contents of your 26 into the 55 and then add to your current collection and then clone your 55 to re-setup your 26 and maybe keep some slightly smaller species like Y. Sidthimunki, B. Striata or even Zipper Loaches.

read up on Ich and figure out what went wrong.
if you haven't got fish keeping down don't get loaches.
I lost some of my sids once but it was my own fault (too radical water changes/ big temp difference).
Personally I'd us coppersafe but others don't agree.
drain your pool!

Ive been keeping fish for over 3 years, Ive actually treated ich before, but This time it just wouldn't go away. Might have been a resistant strain or somthing because it wasn't reacting to the treatment at all...if anything it was slowing down the spread of it.
